Over the past few weeks, the French and European borders have been gradually reopening. The special circumstances due to the Covid-19 pandemic may however complicate international students’ preparations to join UPEC both before departure from their country of origin and upon arrival in France.

Laurent Thévenet, Vice-President for International Affairs answers the most frequently asked questions.

Where does UPEC stand regarding International students for the new academic year?

The French government has authorized access to the territory for international students, regardless of their country of origin, and France’s President has announced that applications for student visas will be given priority treatment.

In accordance with these national measures, UPEC decided very early on to maintain its principle of openness to international students, whether they come through an exchange programs or have applied as independent students. It means that international students will be able to start or continue their studies at UPEC at the beginning of the new academic year in September.

At the institutional level, we keep in contact with our international partners. We have informed them regularly of the university's decisions as well as the evolution of the health situation in France since the beginning of the Covid19 crisis.

How will classes resume?

UPEC is preparing for classes to resume in-person at the beginning of the academic year in September 2020. We are aware that some international students will experience difficulties in arriving on time. We are making every effort to ensure the best possible distance learning solutions when on-site attendance is not possible.

Provided adequate sanitary conditions are maintained, the university will reopen to students as of August 31. On an exceptional basis and upon request from their host faculty, school or institute, students may be granted access to campus starting August 24th.

Our major new year orientation events (Bienvenue à l’UPEC and International Welcome Days) will be held remotely through a bilingual French-English interactive online platform in order to inform and welcome students safely.

What advice could you give to students?

In these uncertain times, it is very important to stay informed. If you haven't already done so, check out the Welcome Guide for International Students. You will find key information to prepare your arrival and guide your first steps in France and at our university.
Remember to visit the university's website www.u-pec.fr on a regular basis to catch up on the latest news. Since the beginning of the health crisis in France, UPEC has set up a special Covid-19 online information space. It is updated regularly and contains all the information and measures related to the situation.

Any last words?

UPEC is a highly internationally oriented university. We hope that the COVID-19 crisis will have as little impact as possible on international exchanges in 2020-2021. Every effort has been and will continue to be made to welcome all international students in the best possible conditions.
It should also be pointed out that the implementation of differentiated registration fees for students from outside the European Union has been suspended for one year in light of the current exceptional circumstances.

We will be delighted to welcome you all in September. Welcome at UPEC!
