Looking Back at the Biannual Meeting of the Aurora European Alliance

On October 17 and 18, 2023, UPEC attended the “Aurora Biannual” organized by the Palacký University Olomouc in the Czech Republic. With more than 150 participants from 12 universities, UPEC was represented by a delegation from the Management Team and staff members working on the Aurora project.

The 2023 fall biannual meeting was held on October 17 and 18 at the Palacký University Olomouc in the Czech Republic. The event saw students, lecturers, professors, and other academic and administrative staff from the universities in the alliance working together to identify and tackle the upcoming major challenges of European higher education.
Participants presented and discussed Aurora Alliance’s results over the first three years of its operations, as well as outlined the Aurora 2030 program.

Among the highlights of this edition were : 

  • The official signing of the new Multilateral Aurora Mobility Agreement by the university presidents for the new 2030 Aurora program
  • The official signing of the Research Infrastructure Memorandum of Understanding by the university presidents to share research infrastructure
Participants also attended special sessions for the many Task Teams of the Aurora Alliance, as well as thematic workshops and plenary sessions on the following areas:
 
  • The impact and role of European universities on the future of higher education in Europe
  • Sustainable development
  • The major challenges of education, research innovation, and social responsibility
  • Student-centered European University alliances

Aurora: The European University Alliance

Aurora is an alliance that was created in 2020 and is funded by the European Commission as part of the European Universities initiative. Following its integration in May 2022, UPEC became a permanent member of the alliance in July 2023. Aurora is a group of 10 universities and 7 associate partners from the four corners of Europe. The members strive to fulfill a shared vision of five priority areas, all of which are aligned with UPEC’s strategic goals, projects, and the ERASME program:
 
  • Environment and Climate Change;
  • Digital Society and Global Citizenship;
  • Health and Well-Being;
  • Culture: Diversity and Identity;
  • Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
