Obtaining a residence permit

Published on September 13, 2010 Updated on June 13, 2022

If you are an international student from outside the European Union and registered at UPEC, the university can help you through the process of obtaining or renewing your residence permit.

HOW TO OBTAIN A RESIDENCE PERMIT?

Students from outside the European Union who have a long-stay visa validating their residence permit do not have to apply for a residence permit during their first year. However, it is essential to validate the long-stay visa within three months of arrival in France.
Algerian students who are newcomers must apply for a residence permit as soon as they arrive in France.

WHEN TO RENEW THE RESIDENCE PERMIT?

Remember to apply for a renewal 3 months before the expiration of your current residence permit.
In case of delay in submitting the renewal application, a fine of 180 euros may be applied.

HOW DO I APPLY?

The process is digital. Validate your VLS-TS, apply for a residence permit for the first time or ask for its renewal directly on the ministère de l’intérieur online platform.

UPEC can provide you with information on the steps to take. You will find many answers to your questions in our Frequently Asked Questions (in French).

If you cannot find the answer to your question in the FAQ, send your request to titredesejour.etudiant@u-pec.fr or make an appointment online.

For information on how to use the online platform to obtain or renew a residence permit, watch the Campus France video tutorial.
